Angry Birds in London
Rovio the game development studio behind smash hit mobile entertainment brand ‘Angry Birds’ is expanding.
The company, from Espoo, Finland, are increasing the size of their workforce by opening an office in London, England.
This new division will explore and develop new IP to help drive the company forward.
Angry Birds has been available since 2009, and has seen more than 3 Billion downloads to date. The game proved so popular that it even spawned its own movie spin-off, which generated more than $350million worldwide.
To build upon this huge success, and develop new smash hit titles, Rovio’s London branch will work on innovation and new product development.
Antti Viitanen, senior vice president of Rovio, told VentureBeat that: “London is the most logical place for us to found a new studio that will complement our overall global mix of internal and external developers. London is also a fantastically diverse talent magnet that has already paid Rovio dividends, as our local consumer products team that is based there has shown.”
Rovio will build their London-based team to more than 20 people within the next two years. Brexit isn’t a problem for Rovio, they see London as an ideal international location.
Rovio are the latest mobile mega-company to harness the power that London offers as an international base. In recent weeks Snapchat also announced their plans to open London offices. Mowjow also made the move to England’s capital city in the final quarter of 2016. We all see London as an ideally placed international-hub. London has a huge talent pool, ready access to Europe, and connections to the US and Asia. This latest news from the makers of Angry Birds only goes to further validate Mowjow’s decision to move to London.
